THIS article was written for the PARC web page,  it was modified to reflect only those operations at KØIP's QTH.
many thanks to all  he hams across Idaho that  helped me make W1AW/7 Idaho a success, especially the guys that helped at my house !
To SEE the complete  Idaho Stations/ story  heres a Link

KØIP QTH becomes  W1AW - by John Wilson KØIP  - please pardon my English and grammar,  2014

So why was W1AW in Idaho,   to celebrating the ARRL 100th anniversary
W1AW  the flag ship call of the ARRL traveled to all 50 states, twice in each state.

In Idaho a team was assembled to make as many contacts (QSO's) as possible
using W1AW during our week in the spotlight.
The Idaho team leader attempted to recruit stations that participate in contests, and
especially the Idaho QSO Party During the past several years  a loosely organized
group calling themselves the Idaho Potato Contest Group has racked up very high scores
during the IDQP.  we operated from my QTH.  So it was no surprise when I was ask if
we could operate on 20 meter SSB,

BUT me being a total glutton for punishment, I ask for more,  15 and 10 meters. Too.

After some discussions, I was assigned 20 & 15 meters SSB,,
2 guys in northern Idaho were given 10 Meter SSB  BUT, they were unavailable during
the W1AW / IDQP weekend.  SO our friend KG7E Jim in Mackay took the 10 M SSB spot
for the weekend and join forces at my QTH for the IDQP and the W1AW event that overlapped that weekend ..

Lucky for me, I have two towers with BIG antennas,  a 20 meter monoband beam (204BA) on one tower,
and a tri-band beam (TH7DXX) on the other,   BUT to run 3 bands at once we needed another antenna for
10 meters,  the solution was Elborn's tower trailer, and a 4 element monoband beam for 10 meters.
I have enough old computers ,  I installed N1MM contest logging software, networked
all the computer,  and we were ready to go!

WELL , Almost Ready
, I still needed the most important piece of the system, OPERATORS,
lucky many folks from PARC stepped up and helped, (see their pictures below.)
Some made more contacts than others but everyone helped..   it all  worked out,
we made over 8880 contact (QSO's) during the first  week.

One interesting stat, our high rate for a 10 minute period when all three stations
were "churning and burning"   was over 100 stations,   in 10 minutes..   Now lets see???,
thats 10 stations a minute, lots of RF

SECOND WEEK , In Sept Idaho got their second week,  I had two other operators making three
of us, I made the bulk of the Q's but it was nice to get the help.  during the second week we
could chose 2 hour slots on various modes and bands,
I did a lot of Teletype and SSB. see the box just below to the right (first week, and second week)...

I personally made a total of 13844 Q's W1AW and as KØIP assistant section manager,
(35 points) for the ARRL centennial.

This really was one of the big events of my 50 years of hamming -  a great bunch of friends came to light up the airways. we did it.
Thanks everyone.
Love those pileups..

Here's a group of pictures that tell the first weeks story.
These are the Pocatello ARC members that made the W1AW Idaho operation a success..

you can CLICK any picture below to BLOW it UP ! !
QSO Totals, NOT overly important, everyone helped, everyone
had a good time.   on the air times varied from
  30 minutes to days

Second week  - Sept 2014
 Total Q's  3565

KØIP 3372
AC7LI 98
WB7DNU  95

As a group we made 12445 Q's
as W1AW.

I personally generated 7774 Q's
as w1aw and 6070 using  my call, as ASM, I was a 35 point station and generated big pileups..  a grand total of 13844

So my station's total Q's for the year was 18515
maybe not record breaking, but a lot

The 20 meter radio, a Icom IC-7600 - Dentron MLA-2500 running about 1KW to a Hygain 204BA, 4 element mono-band beam at 50 Feet.  A BIG SIGNAL
The 20 meter station made 3904 Q's during the first week
The 10 meter Station was KO7P's Icom 756 pro3 and a
Collins 30L-1 amp. 600 watts to a 4 element beam on Elborn's tower/trailer in my front yard. at  30 feet.  ANOTHER BIG SIGNAL
The ten meter station made  1551 Q's in 3 days (first week)

This picture is actually several years old, I forgot to take his picture this year ..  my mistake.              as they say on TV       "  file photo  "

Please note:  the 15 meter station was an all tube radio, a
Collins S-Line made in the 1960's.. 100% made in America !!
we used a MLA-2500 amp until I blew it up , and switched to
a LK-500ZA using 2x 3-500Z Eimac tubes running at 1KW
to a HyGain TH7DXX beam,  another bone crushing signal.
The 15 meter station made 3425 Q's (first week)

Note: the MLA2500 was repaired, a cap shorted, so the
capacitor bank was replaced. the tubes are still in excellent condition.

This should say 15 meters SSB

I hope you enjoyed the pictures and story.

Here's KO7P on 15 meters

front is the 10 meter beam, behind is the 20 meter beam, at KØIP
The TH7DXX isn't visible in this picture
from the back,   204BA @ 50 feet,   TH7DXX @ 35 feet +/-

My apologies to W7RSK & W7MFC,
I failed to get their pictures

Although this page is mostly about the operation from k0ip's home , I am including this chart showing the totals for all idaho stations,
Red operated  from kØip.  Its all history now, I think everyone involved had a great time and its something they won't forget.
